Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff said the firing of former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe on Friday could have been justified.

Schiff, while on ABC News’ “The Week” on Sunday, explained that while there could be justifiable reasons for the administration firing McCabe, the action could also be “tainted.”

WATCH:

“I think the president’s badgering of the attorney general, his urging to be fired before his pension could divest and the fact that McCabe and every other of the James Comey associates … who corroborate James Comey on the issue of potential obstruction of justice, every one of them has been targeted by the administration, by the Republicans in Congress, and is this because they corroborate James Comey?” he asked.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe two days before he was set to retire at the recommendation of the inspector general (IG). The inspector general’s report will be released later this week, and it is said to contain allegations that McCabe leaked certain aspects of the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the press. The IG also claims that McCabe lacked full candor when dealing with investigators.
