Former Miami Dolphins player Jonathan Martin has been charged with five different crimes for an Instagram post.

Martin, who was made famous in the NFL after a bully scandal with the Dolphins, posted a photo of a shotgun after the Stoneman Douglas school shooting in February, and tagged his former NFL teammates Mike Pouncey and Richie Incognito. He captioned the photo, “When you’re a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge.”

He was soon taken into custody by police for an evaluation, and has now been formally hit with charges.

TMZ Sports reported the following:

Jonathan Martin was charged with carrying a loaded weapon and making criminal threats … after allegedly posting a threat to former NFL teammates and classmates on Instagram.

The L.A. County D.A. hit Martin with 5 charges … 4 counts of making criminal threats and 1 count of possessing a loaded firearm.

This whole situation with Martin is so sad and tragic. A few short years ago he was a young NFL player with a very bright future. It all unraveled after his bullying scandal with the Dolphins, and now he’s facing serious criminal charges over an Instagram post. People aren’t taking posts that suggest violence lightly these days, especially when they’re made shortly after the Parkland, Florida shooting.

Hopefully, Martin is able to get the help he clearly needs, and this situation gets better instead of worse.
