Mike Hughes, 61, launched himself roughly 1,875 feet into the air in a homemade rocket in California, CNET reports.

The footage of Hughes liftoff was shared on Instagram. After quickly firing up nearly two thousand feet, Hughes’ rocket deployed two parachutes that cushioned his fall back to the earth.

“I’m tired of people saying I chickened out and didn’t build a rocket,” Hughes said to the Associated Press. “I’m tired of that stuff. I manned up and did it.”

Apparently Hughes hasn’t made any comment on if he believes his rocket launch proves his Flat-Earth theory or not. He maintains that the planet is frisbee-shaped.

Hughes was fine, but got a few bruises on the landing.

“I’ll feel it in the morning. I won’t be able to get out of bed,” he said. “At least I can go home and have dinner and see my cats tonight.”
