During the 2016 campaign, Clinton started a firestorm when she characterized Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.”

“To just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racists, sexists, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it,” Clinton said in September of 2016.

Fox News anchor Dana Perino asked Palmieri if she knew that the comments would cause such heavy problems for the campaign.
