White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders read the story of Jesus’ resurrection at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday morning, and a few critics were quick to attack her demeanor.

Mashable’s Marcus Gilmer called Sanders “apathetic.”

And comedian Marie Connor compared Sanders’ story time to a Bill Belichick press conference.

Other commentators raised questions about the separation of church and state, and a few even suggested she might be uncomfortable reading about Jesus while “serving his opposite in the White House.”

Sanders, who led with a joke about feeding the kids cookies and sending them home with their parents all sugared up, also said she would go fast because, “I know you guys are cold.” She was one of several members of the Trump administration to read aloud to the gathered children.

The comments on the White House’s YouTube video were far more positive, as many cheered Sanders for reading the true story of Easter. One even took a veiled jab at CNN reporter Jim Acosta, who had interrupted President Trump as he colored with children to ask about DACA. “Anyone notice the kids are much more well mannered than the MSM?”

But for Daily Mail reporter Nikki Schwab, Sanders’ appearance at the event was all about the shoes.
