It will be an insanely dumb decision by the Cleveland Browns if they draft Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen first overall.

Sam Darnold had appeared to be a lock to be the first overall pick, but the winds are apparently shifting in Cleveland. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King recently reported that a source close to the situation indicated that he’d be surprised if the Browns didn’t end up taking Allen first overall.

Opportunity of a lifetime

This is a terrible idea if it’s actually true. I can’t begin to explain how bad it would be for the Browns to Allen over Darnold.

What is it about the Wyoming quarterback that makes anybody think he’s a better signal-caller than Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield or Josh Rosen? He struggled at times to dominate at Wyoming! So, we’re supposed to believe he couldn’t tear up the Mountain West Conference, but somehow he’ll be just fine in the NFL? Yeah, I’m not buying that at all.

Look, Allen might turn into a solid NFL quarterback. I have no idea if he will or not, but you can’t rule anything out. Here’s what I do know for sure. Drafting Allen and him not turning out will cost people their jobs. It’s just such a risky pick, especially when you could draft Sam Darnold.

It really looks like the circus in Cleveland never comes to an end.
