Rep. Trey Gowdy discussed leaving Congress during a Thursday interview on “The View,” and insisted that murder trial courtrooms are more civil than politics.

Cohost Meghan McCain said that she is “very very sad” that Gowdy is leaving and asked why he felt he didn’t accomplish much in Congress.

“Well, I’m going to have a troubled marriage if I repeat that because my wife told me not to ever say that again,” Gowdy said. “I’m just more comfortable and, I think, was a little bit better in a courtroom than I have been in Congress…I think I did more public service there than I did in the last eight years.”

Gowdy also said that politics are much dirtier than other professions and he wants to go back to having justice as a client.

“There is more civility in a death penalty trial than there is in politics,” he argued. “Unfortunately sometimes in politics the objective is always to win.”
