A Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School chemistry teacher was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s office for leaving a loaded handgun in a public bathroom.

Sean Simpson forgot his Glock 9mm in a men’s room at the Deerfield Beach pier Sunday, and a homeless man stumbled upon it and fired a bullet into the wall, according to The Miami Herald.

Stoneman Douglas High School was the site the February mass shooting that left 17 students dead.

Simpson told the Sheriff’s deputies he’d left his gun inside the bathroom by mistake. “By the time he realized he’d left it behind, the drunk homeless man had already picked it up and discharged it,” The Herald reported.

Simpson struggled with the hobo, Joseph Spataro and eventually got his gun back. Spataro was charged with firing a weapon while intoxicated and trespassing, while Simpson was charged with failing to safely store a firearm. A second-degree misdemeanor.

He posted a $250 cash bond and was released, according to The Herald.
