The Tuesday evening news broadcasts on ABC and CBS opted not to cover arguably the biggest news of the day — that the United States had engaged in “high-level talks” with North Korea.

During a meeting with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, President Donald Trump revealed that the United States had started high-level talks with the rogue regime.

Nonetheless, ABC’s “World News Tonight” and CBS’ “Evening News” apparently didn’t think it was worth informing the viewers about the talks. The Media Research Center reported that neither show even mentioned the story, instead talking about a baby gorilla at the National Zoo and the North Pole Marathon, respectively.

The Washington Post reported shortly after the evening broadcasts that CIA director Mike Pompeo had met with North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un just a few weeks ago, setting the stage for a meeting between Trump and Jong Un. The meeting is a milestone in diplomatic relations between the U.S. and North Korea, as no North Korean leader has ever met with a sitting U.S. president.
