New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski bought minority stake in a horse named after him, called Gronk. The thoroughbred is set to run in the Kentucky Derby in May.

“I’ve never dealt with horses,” Gronkowski explained in The Wall Street Journal Wednesday of the 3-year-old colt. “Hopefully I can get a ride on the horse.”

Gronkowski said he knows he weighs more than the jockey that will ride Gronk in the big race on May 5, but it won’t be about “speed” when he rides a horse for the first time.

“That’s what I want to know,” the New England player explained. “I’m not trying to ride it for a full speed ride. I just want to get the feel of what it’s like to be on top of one. Maybe I’ll go for a full speed ride once I get comfortable.”

“It’s official, I am part of the Gronkowski Team! GRONK ACQUIRES A STAKE IN GRONK … THE KENTUCKY DERBY-BOUND RACEHORSE,” Gronkowski tweeted, along with a shot of the horse.

In a video shared on YouTube Tuesday, fans got to see a behind-the-scenes glance at the horse named after the Patriots tight end.
