White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and President Donald Trump took Senate Democrats to task for opposing the nomination of Mike Pompeo to be Secretary of State.

Sanders told Fox & Friends early Monday morning that “at some point, Democrats have to decide whether they love this country more than they hate this president. And they have to decide that they want to put the safety and the security and the diplomacy of our country ahead of their own political game.”

Pompeo is set to be voted out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with an unfavorable recommendation after Republican Sen. Rand Paul joined Democrats and pledged to oppose his nomination.

The unfavorable recommendation to the Senate floor however is unlikely to sink Pompeo’s nomination.

“I am not concerned,” Senator Tom Cotton told reporters Friday. “Mike Pompeo will be confirmed by the Senate next week.”
