Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed MSNBC host Joy Reid for blaming her old blog’s anti-gay posts on hackers — but then he came to her defense.

Reid’s story is a ridiculous “hoax,” Carlson said, but that doesn’t mean conservatives should come for her job.

“Some have called for her to be fired for all of this,” Carlson said. “We are not among them, because we are not Joy Reid. If she could push a button and yank this show off the air forever, is there any doubt she would do that? Of course not. She would do that in a second. And she would feel virtuous as everyone who works on this show lost their jobs.”

“But that’s not how we feel about this,” Carlson explained. “We are not progressives, so silencing people we disagree with is not our goal and never has been our goal. We don’t share Joy Reid’s views on pretty much anything, but we don’t want to personally destroy her and we don’t want her show boycotted and cancelled.”

“In some ways, we’re actually rooting for Joy Reid, amazingly, since we know what it’s like to be on the wrong side of a howling Twitter mob. It’s a lonely place and increasingly, it’s a commonplace in modern America unfortunately,” he said.

“Still, we wish they would stop lying and not just lying, but lying in the most insultingly obvious way. Your eight-year-old could tell more convincing lies than NBC News does and probably feel more guilty about it than they do.”
