Former White House speech writer David Sorensen filed a $4 million lawsuit against his ex-wife on April 27 after she accused him of domestic abuse in February, forcing him to resign.

Sorensen is suing his ex-wife, Jessica Corbett, for defamation, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and tortuous interference with contract and public retraction of her previous claims after Corbett accused Sorensen of being verbally and physically abusive to her in a February 9 interview with The Washington Post.

The accusations cost Sorensen his job at the White House under President Donald Trump. “We immediately confronted the staffer; he denied the allegations and he resigned today,” spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement. In a text message to The Washington Post, Sorensen said he resigned because he “didn’t want the White House to have to deal with this distraction.”

Two weeks after his resignation, Sorensen released polygraph results he claimed prove the accusations are false, according to The Portland Press Herald.

The lawsuit was filed in a Massachusetts court, where Sorensen is now a resident of the state.
