Former Dallas Cowboys player Gerald Sensabaugh said he agrees with what Kanye West was saying in response to comments the rapper made about slavery being a choice.

“I agree with what Kanye was saying, but I think he needs to go a different way about expressing that. You can’t hit on sensitive issues and not expect a backlash,” the 34-year-old retired football player shared Wednesday with TMZ.

“One thing about what Kanye said, his choice of words was really bad. But I understand where he was coming from,” Sensabaugh added. “His whole thing is that we’re choosing to be enslaved by choosing to listen to the media outlets. We’re letting people influence our thoughts, influence the way we do things, and I think that’s what he meant.”

“The way he said it is going to offend a lot of people,” he continued. “I don’t think he meant any harm by that, but it comes off very offensive. Kanye’s a different guy. He’s outspoken. He said Trump’s his boy so expect him to kind of have some Trump-ish ways but I don’t think he means any harm.”

“We should be able to express how we feel about issues without everybody getting so easily offended,” the former safety explained. “With the president we have now, he [Trump]  is going to keep doing things that’s probably going to offend people, but I don’t think he means any harm against the country.”

He said he thinks both West and Trump are going to keep “being transparent. It’s more about being brutally honest, holding people accountable.”
