President Trump spoke at the National Day of Prayer event at the White House Thursday.

The event was attended by a diverse range of religious leaders and faith-based guests. Trump spoke at length about the role and importance of faith and prayer in life.

The president highlighted some incredible stories from those in the audience. At one point, the president welcomed onstage a felon and the FBI agent who put him away for the better part of two decades. The two have since become friends and devoted their lives to Christ.

The felon, John Ponder, now runs a ministry.

However, the most powerful line said by Trump during the event came when the president made a distinction between God and government. Trump described his newly signed faith initiative as an “office that will also help ensure that faith-based organizations have equal access to government funding and the equal right to exercise their deeply-held beliefs.”

Trump then made a comment that few could imagine ever coming from a previous presidency:

“Faith is more powerful than government, and nothing is more powerful than God.”
