MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough grilled Sen. Angus King over his opposition to CIA director nominee Gina Haspel during a Thursday morning interview.

Scarborough noted that King, an Independent from Maine, and a number of Democrats asked many questions that would be better saved for a close session.

“But, you also though – there’s also a lot of information that you could have gotten if the cameras were turned off and people were taken out of the room,” Scarborough asserted.

“I mean, it’s just like Diane Feinstein asked a question that she knew she could not answer in a public committee hearing, and also knew that if the room were cleared and the cameras were turned off, you all could get the information,” he continued with some underlying anger. “Was this just a sideshow for your base?”

“No, no, no,” King insisted, claiming that Haspel also didn’t answer his questions during the closed hearing.

Elsewhere in King’s interview, MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle crushed him by asking why he wouldn’t vote for Haspel if he believed her to be qualified for the position.
