White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders castigated Iran Thursday after the regime’s Revolutionary Guard Corps fired missiles into Israel from Syria.
“The United States condemns the Iranian regime’s provocative rocket attacks from Syria against Israeli citizens, and we strongly support Israel’s right to act in self-defense,” she wrote in a statement. “The Iranian regime’s deployment into Syria of offensive rocket and missile systems aimed at Israel is an unacceptable and highly dangerous development for the entire Middle East.”
“Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bears full responsibility for the consequences of its reckless actions, and we call on the IRGC and its militant proxies, including Hizballah, to take no further provocative steps.”
Israel confirmed in a Thursday statement that it conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria against Iranian missile targets. Israel has made it clear to Iran that it will now allow it to turn Syria into a base in which it can develop strategic threats to its own country.
The airstrikes drew several Iranian missile attacks on the Syrian-Israeli border, with Israeli missile defense systems intercepting some of the projectiles.
