Dartmouth College wants to fix the gender gap in donations, according to a Thursday report.

Men currently give Dartmouth 2.5 times more money than women, a figure which has decreased from a factor of 4.7 since the 2014 establishment of the Centennial Circle — a female alumni group that has contributed at least $100,000 to Dartmouth’s financial aid program — The Dartmouth reported. But the school wishes to even the donation gender gap even further.

“We have a lot of work to do, but we’re seeing that women are giving at all levels, not just $100,000,” Centennial Circle director Mindi Laine told The Dartmouth.

Laine noted men, but not women, were receptive to fundraising tactics that turned donating into a competition between various Dartmouth class years. Laine now aims to bolster female donations by having women encourage each other to donate.

Fifty-three alumni and widows of the school’s alumni have each contributed at least $1 million to the Ivy League institution during the current fundraising campaign, Dartmouth vice president for communications Justin Anderson reported. This figure dwarfs the four women who gave comparable amounts during a campaign ending in 2010.

“I’ve gotten great feedback from people [who] I’ve seen in person, and I know that the Dartmouth folks who are going out and talking to donors are getting great feedback … We’re already seeing the momentum building over the Dartmouth Hall fund,” Dartmouth alum and Centennial Circle funder Caroline Hribar said, mentioning alumni could name classrooms and sections of buildings in Dartmouth Hall after certain campus communities. “There’s a really limited number of women who can give at that level, and that’s not the only goal. It’s about getting the entire community to give a gift of any size to help rebuild Dartmouth Hall.”

Dartmouth College ranks 89 out of 2,718 academic institutions for gender diversity, boasting a nearly 50-50 male-female undergraduate population. The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Dartmouth for comment but received none in time for press.
