A moderate Democratic running for office in November deleted a series of 2016 and 2017 tweets calling progressive liberals intolerant and praising then-candidate Donald Trump, CNN reported Friday.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli is running in November to replace retiring Republican Rep. Charlie Dent in a part of Pennsylvania that voted for Trump in 2016. The centrist Democrat scrubbed several tweets criticizing “misguided liberalism,” CNN’s KFile noted.

Morganelli is receiving backing from United Together, a group aligned with longtime Hillary Clinton ally Lanny Davis. Morganelli has been a thorn in his party’s side recently, staking out conservative positions on immigration, even advocating for cracking down on illegal immigration.

“Rahm Emanuel should immediately resign as Mayor. He is incapable of protecting his citizens. Misguided liberalism at work,” he wrote in a January 2017 tweet to Trump. “Obama should send in feds like he does when police use force,” he added.

Morganelli doubled down two days later, urging Emanuel to resign, according to CNN’s KFile, which relied on the Wayback Machine to recover the deleted posts. He attempted to downplay the Twitter scrubbing in an interview Friday with KFile.

“I do believe some progressives who believe that they want everyone to be tolerant of some things are very intolerant of other people’s opinions, so I do believe that,” he said. “I’ve seen it in action, personally.”

He issued several tweets shortly after Trump’s election day victory, praising the president’s leadership.

“Thankful for your coming leadership. Waiting to hear from transition. Met you at Bedminister (sic) when I played in Member Guest,” Morganelli wrote in a Nov. 24, 2016, tweet, presumably referring to a golf tournament he played in with Trump.

Liberal activist groups like the pro-choice group EMILY’s List and NextGen America, a group billionaire Tom Steyer founded and funds, have spent money attacking Morganelli, who is currently running for Pennsylvania’s 7th District against a slate of left-leaning candidates.

A Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision from February could loom large heading into the mid-terms.

The Court redrew the Keystone State’s congressional district lines after finding the current map was intentionally gerrymandered to favor Republicans. Pennsylvania’s Republican Party and Trump vigorously objected to the decision at the time. (RELATED: A State Court Gave Dems A Big Boost For The Midterms. Now Trump Wants SCOTUS Involved)

Democrats are favored to win four more seats under the new map — a boon to their efforts to win control of the House of Representatives this November. Republicans currently hold 13 of the state’s 18 seats. Under the new map, Democrats and Republicans will each win nine districts, projections suggest. (RELATED: Democrats Have A Blueprint To Devastate Republicans, But Here’s Why They’ll Screw It Up)
