Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds told an excited crowd Saturday that her state is better at protecting life than any other state in America, making it clear that she will continue to fiercely defend life.

“We are No. 1 in the country when it comes to protecting life,” Reynolds said to a massive audience at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Saturday rally in Windsor Heights, Iowa. “I believe all innocent life is precious and sacred, and as governor I pledge to you to do everything in my power to protect life.”

“We know that our work is not done, that we must continue to work together to change the hearts and mind,” she continued. “It’s a fight worth fighting.”

Her statements come after she signed a measure into law banning all abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. A heartbeat typically manifests at about six weeks into a pregnancy. The law will take effect July 1 and limits abortion access more than any other state in the U.S. (RELATED: Iowans Applaud Newly Passed Abortion Law)

The new legislation also bans the sale of all fetal tissue in the state.

“I think that I have made it very clear that I am pro-life and, as a governor, I would do everything that I could to protect the life of the unborn,” Reynolds said after the legislature passed, the Des Moines Register reports.

Reynolds’ statements follow reports of increased pro-life protests and advocacy outside of abortion clinics across the country, according to The Associated Press.

South Carolina nearly passed a law banning all abortions except those performed in the case of rape, incest and to save the mother’s life, but the bill died in the state’s Senate. (RELATED: Pro-Life Activists Emboldened With New ‘Intensity’ As The Nation Embraces Life, Report Shows)
