Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was one of the few members of Congress to denounce Israel’s actions while trying to maintain control over the Palestinians protesting at the Gaza border.

There have been more than 50 deaths so far, as of Monday, and over 1,200 people have been injured, according to the Associated Press.

It’s been the deadliest day for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the most recent war back in the summer of 2014.

The White House disagrees with Sanders’ viewpoint response, with spokesman Raj Shah saying during the daily press briefing that the deaths “rests squarely with Hamas,” and it continues to support Israel’s “right to defend itself.”

The protests, which have been going on for days now, are in part a result of the United States’ decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

Even through all of the violence, President Donald Trump has said he remains committed to finding a long-term peaceful solution to the Middle Eastern conflicts.
