Gap apologized after the clothing retailer had a geographical mistake on a T-shirt with a map of China, according to The Wall Street Journal Tuesday.

The popular San Francisco-based company generated backlash from China on a social media site known as “Weibo” after the shirt failed to include Chinese territories, including Taiwan, parts of Tibet and Xinjiang, and several islands, The Wall Street Journal reported. The brand pulled the shirts from stores in China due to the geographical gaffe.

“We were informed the design of a Chinese map on a Gap T-shirt sold in some overseas markets was incorrect,” Gap said in a statement Tuesday. “The product has been withdrawn from the Chinese market and completely destroyed.”

“Gap Inc. respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. We’ve learned that a Gap brand T-shirt sold in some overseas markets failed to reflect the correct map of China. We sincerely apologize for this unintentional error,” the international brand said on their personal Weibo account Monday, Reuters reported(RELATED: H&M Apologizes For Having Black Child Model ‘Coolest Monkey’ Sweatshirt)
