Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich praised President Donald Trump’s North Korea strategy Thursday on “Fox & Friends” while invoking former President Ronald Reagan.

“Trump has ratcheted up the pressure — he’s made it very real,” Gingrich said. “I actually thought that Secretary Pompeo’s speech about the Iranians was also aimed at the North Koreans. It was a very tough speech and said basically, we’re going to take apart your economy. I think it’s sort of a reminder to the North Koreans. You don’t want to play nice? Fine. We’re a lot bigger than you. We won’t play nice either.” (RELATED: Newt Gingrich Accuses FBI Of Using Gestapo Tactics)

Gingrich invoked Reagan’s formula of “trust but verify” and said as long as Trump stays the course with his current foreign policy team, America will keep North Korea in check.

“Reagan used to say a Russian phrase — trust but verify,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich’s new book “Trump’s America” comes out in print on June 5.
