Italian Government Tells Immigrants They Have To Go Back
Italy’s new interior minister told migrants to “pack their bags” due to the overcrowding of refugees in Sicily.
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said that he is sick of Sicily being Europe’s refugee camp and that he will work on preventing migrants entering from Africa during a speech, the BBC reported. Salvini is part of the nationalistic, eurosceptic, and anti-immigration party “Lega Nord.” (RELATED: Slovenian Political Leader Wants To Put ‘Slovenia First’ Agenda In Melania Trump’s Home Country)
“Enough of Sicily being the refugee camp of Europe. I will not stand by and do nothing while there are landings after landings. We need deportation centres,” Salvini said Sunday to a crowd at Catania port in Sicily. (RELATED: Somali Immigrant Allegedly Tried To Rape Woman In Labor)
The politician also emphasized during the speech that there are not enough housing facilities nor work for Italians, “let alone half the continent of Africa,” he said. Preventing migrants from getting on the boats will be the best way to “save lives,” he noted. (RELATED: Italian Politician Says Sending Back Illegal Immigrants Is A Top Priority)
The illegal immigrants should “get ready to pack your bags” because the good times for refugees are over, Salvini said during a rally Saturday. The interior minister is working with the European Union to enact stricter measures to curtail illegal immigration, The Telegraph reported.
