Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that he is “saddened” by the direction of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion.

Gingrich initially believed that Mueller was a “superb” choice for the investigation, but told the hosts of ABC’s “The View” that he has changed his mind.

“I am so saddened by how Mueller has done this,” Gingrich said. “The 17 lawyers he’s hired are all liberal Democrats. One of the lawyers actually was one of Hillary’s lawyers.”

“The View” cohost Sunny Hostin argued that Mueller is a Republican, to which Gingrich replied he must be a “very vague Republican.”

“I have a very simple Jerry Mcguire comment. Do you remember Jerry Mcguire? Show me the money? This guy has had $17 million, a year and a half,” Gingrich asserted.

Hostin noted that Mueller has handed down 17 indictments but Gingrich declared, “There’s no evidence — there’s no — wait a second, there’s no evidence that ties Donald Trump to anything involving Russia.”
