If the summit in Singapore “goes well,” North Korean leader Kim Jong Un might win an invitation to the White House, President Donald Trump told The Daily Caller Thursday afternoon.

The president said that he would “certainly” invite Kim to the U.S. “Maybe we’ll start with the White House. What do you think?” he replied when asked if Kim would be invited to visit Mar-a-Lago or the White House.

Trump will meet Kim in Singapore on June 12 for an unprecedented summit. The two leaders are set to discuss denuclearization, as well as an end to the Korean War and possibly even the normalization of diplomatic relations between the U.S.

Uncertainty hangs over the meeting, as it is unclear whether the two can reach an agreement on the fate of Kim’s nuclear arsenal. Trump stated he sees the “potential to make a deal.”

“I’m totally prepared to walk away. I did it once before,” the president told TheDC, referring to his decision to cancel the summit last month following a string of critical statements from the North Korean foreign ministry. Following a week of diplomatic meetings between U.S. and North Korean officials in Korea, in Singapore, and in the U.S., Trump announced that the summit is back on. The president told the crowd of reporters gathered at the White House Thursday that they will know how the summit went based on the usage of the word “maximum pressure,” a term which has characterized the administration’s North Korea policy until recently. He says that there is no need to use this term now, but if the summit fails to achieve the desired results, he will bring it back.
