The conservative magazine National Review called for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt’s removal Wednesday, questioning his ability to remain effective in his post.

Pruitt has dealt with a slew of critical press since his confirmation, and his critics have grown more numerous and persistent. Recent reports reveal that Pruitt requested EPA aides to help him buy a discount mattress and ask donors to find a job for his wife.

“We are now at a point where a good week for Pruitt sees only one report of behavior that is bizarre or venal,” the Wednesday editorial said. “This is no way for any public official to treat taxpayers. It also makes it practically impossible for Pruitt to make the case for the Trump administration’s environmental policies — a case that we continue to believe deserves to be made.”

The editorial’s headline itself is “Scott Pruitt Should Go.”

“Pruitt is replaceable. And he should be replaced,” National Review concludes.

National Review joins the right-of-center outlet Weekly Standard in calling for Pruitt’s removal. Others on the right, such as Laura Ingraham and Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, have begun questioning Pruitt’s continued leadership at the EPA with the constant leak of damaging stories and critical coverage. (RELATED: Jim Inhofe Says Pruitt May Need To ‘Leave That Job’ At EPA)

Pruitt has not been abandoned entirely, though. Conservative radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck Program cohost Stu Burguiere and others have stood by him. (RELATED: ‘Left-Wing Radical Kooks’: Mark Levin Blasts The ‘Leviathan’ For Attacking Scott Pruitt [LISTEN])

President Donald Trump has also stuck behind his EPA administrator. Trump has praised Pruitt’s work at the EPA, saying Pruitt is “setting records.”

“Outside, he’s being attacked very viciously by the press,” Trump told reporters on June 8. “And I’m not saying that he’s blameless, but we’ll see what happens.”
