Republican and Democratic members of Congress took the field at Nationals Park Thursday night in Washington, D.C., for the annual congressional baseball game.
When the national anthem played ahead of the charity baseball match, members on both sides of the aisle stood together for the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”

The game also marked the triumphant return of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was shot a year ago after a gunman opened fire while Republican congressmen were practicing for the annual game. A total of five people were wounded in the shooting, with Scalise being taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He was shot in the hip and remained in the hospital for months, undergoing multiple surgeries before he resumed his duties in the fall.
Thursday night, Scalise walked out to the field and received a standing ovation.

The representative from Louisiana started off the game as second basemen and on the first pitch off the night a ball went straight to him. He managed to grab it and score the first out of the night, getting California Rep. Raul Ruiz out at first base.
In the end, Democrats ended up beating the Republicans 21-5.
