A Marine standing post near a commandant’s home on Capitol Hill has been hospitalized in stable condition from a self-inflicted, critical gun shot wound Friday, according to a USMC press release and ABC’s Luis Martinez.

The Marine was at the 8th and I St. Marine Barracks Washington and was taken to George Washington University Hospital after the 8AM incident, according to a press release. The incident is now under investigation.

“There was no assailant,” a USMC spokesperson told NBC4’s Mark Segraves.
