CNBC reporter and MSNBC commentator John Harwood accused President Trump on Saturday of leading a party of white people who oppose economic change.

Trump is “leading a party whose core appeal right now is to white people about resisting cultural and economic changes in the country,” Harwood told MSNBC anchor Alex Witt. “The core impulse in [the Republican] party right now is to prevent the United States from becoming more diverse and having more nonwhite people in the country.”

Harwood was commenting on immigration policy, claiming Trump is inflicting cruelty on non-whites. “The immigration issue has been hot in our politics for more than ten years now. But President Trump has taken it to a level that George W. Bush would find unrecognizable.”

Harwood then went on to suggest Trump and Caucasian voters have no “moral sense.” (RELATED: MSNBC’s Brzezinski Says The Country Feels ‘Empty And Helpless’)

The United States’s current unemployment rate (3.8 percent) is the lowest in close to two decades, and an entire percentage point lower than when Trump took office.

MSNBC’s Witt offered no corrections to Harwood’s commentary.
