An illegal immigrant told MSNBC Monday that she would not have crossed into the U.S. if she knew her child would have been taken.

WATCH:

Consuelo and her 15-year-old son, Transito, were separated in an ICE facility for six days.

Consuelo said she was told she would be deported and her son would remain in the U.S. She and her son were attempting to flee Guatemala when they came to the U.S illegally.

MSNBC correspondent Mariana Atencio asked Conseulo that if she knew her son would be taken from her when she came to the U.S. illegally, would she still have come?

If I would have thought he would be taken away, I wouldn’t have come,” Atencio translated for Conseulo. “But since we’re fleeing violence, a lot of violence in Guatemala, our life was threatened and we were told we were going to be murdered.”
