A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows that a majority of Republicans support separating families to deter illegal immigration.

The poll stated in an attempt to discourage illegal immigration into the U.S. by illegal immigrants seeking asylum, “the Trump administration has been prosecuting the parents immediately, which means separating parents from their children.”

When asked if respondents agreed with the administration’s policies, the responses show 55 percent of Republicans support this stance, while 35 percent of Republicans oppose it. The poll shows that 66 percent of total respondents disagree with the policy, and 27 percent of total respondents agree with the policy.

As to whether or not the Trump administration is “too aggressive in deporting immigrants who are here illegally,” 62 percent of Republicans agreed that the Trump administration is acting appropriately, 86 percent of Democrats said the Trump administration is too aggressive and half of all voters said the Trump administration is too aggressive.
