Actor Chadwick Boseman gave the MTV Movie Award for Best Hero he won for his performance in “Black Panther” to James Shaw Jr., who is better known as the Waffle House hero.

Boseman won the award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Monday for the 2018 blockbuster, but during his acceptance speech, he called attention to Shaw, who was in the audience. (RELATED: ‘Black Panther’ Star Takes Swipe At Roseanne Barr During MTV Movie Awards [VIDEO])

“Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes that we have in real life. So I just want to acknowledge somebody that’s here today. James Shaw Jr., where are you? Stand,” he said. “You didn’t even know we were about to do this, did you? If you don’t know James Shaw Jr., he fought off a gunman in Antioch, Tennessee, at a Waffle House. He saved lives.”

Shaw stepped up to the stage, and Boseman passed the popcorn bag–shaped trophy on to him. (RELATED: Van Jones Tries To Bait Waffle House Shooting Hero, But It’s Not Happening)

“So this is going to live at your house,” Boseman said.

Shaw disarmed a gunman during a shooting at the Tennessee Waffle House that left four dead on April 22. Shaw received second-degree burns from grabbing the hot gun away from the shooter.

Attending church has helped him with his “healing process,” he said April 24 on “Fox & Friends”.

“I just went to church just so I could begin kind of like the healing process and kind of persevere through this situation,” Shaw said. “And I just wanted to be around, you know, some love. My fraternal brothers came to support me. My family was there to support me. The church was there to support me.”
