Health care is the top issue for independent voters in 2018 as of June, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll released on Wednesday.

The poll found that 26 percent of independent voters thought health care is “the most important issue” for midterm candidates to address, the largest percentage for any of the issues listed among that group. The second most important issue was the economy and jobs, with 22 percent of independent voters saying that was their top issue.

Health care was also the top issue for Democrats, with 33 percent of Democratic voters saying health care was the most important to them. Gun policy was second, with 30 percent saying that it was their top issue.

Democrats are banking on health care being a swing issue for voters. Democrats have run more than 26,000 ads focusing on health care as of May, according to a May 29 USA Today report.

Medicare-for-all is gaining traction in the Democratic party, with socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beating incumbent New York Democratic Rep. Joseph Crowley on a platform of Medicare-for-all on Tuesday night. (RELATED: Socialist Who Ran On Abolishing ICE Blew Out Democrat Hoping To Beat Pelosi As Next House Speaker In Jaw-Dropping Upset)

Of the Democratic voters surveyed, 68 percent said Medicare-for-all was either the most important health care-related issue or a very important health care issue for candidates to address in the midterm election, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation poll.
