Republican Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana said Wednesday on “Fox & Friends” that Democrats don’t want to secure the southern border and have no interest in enforcing immigration laws.
Host Steve Doocy asked why the GOP hasn’t offered more immigration concessions to Democrats to get a deal done, Scalise answered the left has acted in bad faith. (RELATED: Steve Scalise Shares How He Made It Back To Congress After Shooting)
“What the Democrats want is amnesty and open borders. And that’s really what it’s come down to and they don’t want to build the wall. Let’s be clear,” Scalise said.

“I fully support what President Trump is doing to try to secure our border. Which includes building the wall — not the only thing to do, but it’s one of the things you should be doing,” he continued. “You have a president who wants to actually secure America’s border. That should not be a partisan issue.”
Scalise said Republicans will continue to push the issue but expects Democrats to continue obstructing any progress.
“Unfortunately here in Washington, Democrats here don’t want to secure the border working with this president,” he concluded. “So we’re going to keep trying to get it done. But, you know, today is going to be another effort and we’re going to keep at it.”
