Basketball superstar LeBron James made the shocking decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
The multimillion-dollar deal is record-breaking and sent the sports world into a tailspin. Among those welcoming James to California was the California Democratic Party, asking the basketball superstar to register and vote: “Welcome to the neighborhood,” the party tweeted, with a link to voter registration and donation link.
Welcome to the neighborhood, @KingJames.

In response, California Congressman Devin Nunes tweeted, “LOL! Prepare to pay the highest taxes you ever have in your career!! You should have held out for more just to afford the Moonbeam weather tax!!!”

California has the highest income taxes in the country at 13.3 percent, which James will certainly pay. Ohio’s top income tax is 4.997 percent, meaning James will pay nearly three times as much in income tax in his new home state.
