Los Angeles Democratic City Councilman Mike Bonin was arrested for blocking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities alongside 18 protesters Monday.

Bonin, along with Rabbi Jonathan Klein, led the civil disobedience to end family detention. The Occupy ICE L.A. movement is part of ongoing demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance policies to end illegal immigration.

Bonin felt ICE was “putting children in baby jails,” the Associated Press reported. Protesters, including Bonin, obstructed the entrance by linking arms and shouting “Shut down ICE!”

Police warned around 60 protesters they were unlawfully present at the ICE facilities and needed to disperse. Authorities made arrests beginning at 11 a.m. PDT, according to KABC- TV Los Angeles. “How does a parent not risk arrest?” a statement by Bonin obtained by KTLA after his arrest reads. “For our kids, for our country, and for our humanity, we need to roar and resist — with our voices and with our bodies.”

The rally occurred after the “Families Belong Together” protest in L.A. on Saturday.
