Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters has served California’s 43rd congressional district since 2013 but has made a career out of outrageous comments.
She had previously represented California’s 29th and 35th congressional districts between 1991 and 2013.
Throughout the 1990s she made brash comments about white Americans following the Rodney King trial. In the early 2000s, she called President George W. Bush a “liar” and Vice President Dick Cheney a “thief.” Within the past decade, she has urged American corporations to socialize and has even called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump with no concrete evidence of an impeachable offense committed by the president.
Waters is a career politician but some of her comments have made her eligible to be a provocateur as well. There is no doubt that Waters is proud of her black femininity as she has claimed to be a “strong black woman” many times before.
It seems that her strategy to earn more supporters is to stir the pot and make outrageous comments about her political opponents. Clearly, it has been effective for her throughout her career.
