MSNBC tweeted out a monstrous chart about European defense spending on Thursday that looked like it was made by a kindergartner.
The chart showed percent changes in defense spending between the United States and NATO Europe over the past seven years, but an abundance of squiggly lines and circles made the graph incredibly hard to read and almost nonsensical. (RELATED: MSNBC Airs Pathetic Graph About Trump’s Tweeting Habits)

The chart shows both NATO Europe and the U.S. increasing defense spending at a higher rate over time, and it appears that both countries’ trend lines are flanked by some pretty poorly-drawn arrows.

Others suggested the graph is “deceptive” because it only accounts for a percent change in defense spending and doesn’t actually compare how much the relative countries spend on defense in total.
This graph is very deceptive. MSNBC is misleading the public. It’s fake news.
