CNN anchor Anderson Cooper called President Donald Trump’s news conference with Russian president Vladimir Putin “perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader.”

WATCH:

After a meeting in Helsinki, Finland on Monday, Trump and Putin talked to the press about election meddling and the relationship between their respective countries. Trump said he has “great confidence” in the U.S. intelligence community but also pivoted away from directly blaming Russia or Putin for interference.

“You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader certainly that I’ve ever seen,” Cooper said immediately after the conference ended. “An extraordinary press conference.”

The other panelists with Cooper were equally shocked at what they had just witnessed and trashed Trump’s performance during the presser.

“He basically said in Russia, they would never have let this stuff happen. I mean, it really was quite extraordinary actually,” Christiane Amanpour agreed. “I thought we were going to get out of that press conference with a minimum of damage and that was really, really extraordinary, as you just said.”
