CNN commentator John Avlon suggested the White House is attempting to distract the American public from the meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on July 16, to keep details of the talk from getting out.
“It’s also worth emphasizing one thing,” Avlon said on “New Day” Tuesday. “The thing they’re trying to distract from isn’t just the disaster of the press conference at Helsinki and the questions it raised. Avlon claimed information is purposely being omitted or hidden and said the situation has become “serious.”

“That’s what’s being obscured. That’s the serious stuff,” Avlon added.
“New Day” co-host Alisyn Camerota agreed with Avlon and said the alleged details of the meeting have been “alarming” and have forced the Trump White House into damage control mode.
“The few things that we do know, in terms of like being able to hand over a former Russian ambassador for interrogation by Russia — that the few things that have leaked out that have been so alarming that the White House has had to sort of retract them,” Camerota concluded.
