Former Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee called former CIA director John Brennan “unhinged” for suggesting President Donald Trump committed treason against America.

Huckabee said it makes sense for Trump to pull security clearance for Obama-era officials, including Brennan, to reduce the chance of political revenge. (RELATED: Mike Huckabee Hammers Media For Calling Trump Treasonous)

“Not only do I not have a problem with them yanking the [security] clearances. I was shocked to find out they still had them,” Huckabee said on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” Tuesday. “It just doesn’t work like that in any employment I’ve ever been in, including public employment. I walk out the door of state government — you think I carried passwords with me to the computer system? Absolutely not. They were all changed.”

Huckabee said Brennan stepped over the line when he accused Trump of treason after the Helsinki summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and reminded viewers that treason is punishable by death.

“John Brennan didn’t just say I disagree with President Trump. He accused him of treason,” Huckabee continued.

“That’s an offense that if guilty, you could be executed for it. That’s not a minor thing. For a former CIA official to be that unhinged, they should never have kept their clearances and, by gosh, rather than say we are reviewing it, the one disagreement I have with the Trump administration — they should have just said ‘we have today revoked them’ and been done with it.”
