President Donald Trump praised Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for requiring his players to stand for the national anthem before all games.

Trump referenced a Wednesday press conference Jones gave when he declared, “Our policy is you stand during the anthem, toe on the line.”

Jones has long supported players standing for the national anthem, which Trump repeatedly advocated for throughout the 2017 NFL season.

The issue of standing for the national anthem again surfaced in national politics after several Philadelphia Eagles players did not want to attend a White House ceremony celebrating their Super Bowl win. The president canceled the ceremony, which would have included only a few Eagles players, and instead held a “Celebration of America” that featured patriotic songs and the Marine band.
