The Spanish government revealed a new strategy to tackle the increase of migrant arrivals Sunday.
Socialist Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s office released a statement saying they are creating new centers to process and identify migrants’ needs, according to Bloomberg. Spain’s new plan to accommodate the migrants’ arrivals that will cost $35.1 million. The money will go to staff helping out with the arrivals on Spanish beaches. The staff will hand out blankets, food, and manage the identification process to determine if the migrants can receive asylum, a spokesperson for the prime minister’s office said, according to Reuters.
“Migration policy needs to be shared, all European countries need to get involved,” said Labour Minister Magdalena Valerio, according to Reuters.
The government also noted that the migration trend is expected to continue until the end of 2018.
“The government took decisions with the Aquarius for humanitarian reasons and to show that it’s possible to have a different kind of immigration policy in the European Union,” the statement said, Bloomberg reported. The Spanish government allowed the Aquarius to dock in Valencia, Spain after it was turned away by Italian government June 9.

As many as 800 migrants from Morocco stormed border fences in the Spanish North African enclave Ceuta Thursday. The attack injured 22 police officers, according to The National.
Approximately 22,000 migrants arrived at Spanish coasts so far in 2018, Bloomberg added.
