CNN’s Jim Acosta, who has fashioned himself as a defender of the freedom of the press, twice cut off reporters who were calling out questions to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders during Thursday’s press briefing.

At one point, Sanders was answering a question asked by Acosta when another reporter tried to break in.

“Hang on, let her finish,” Acosta told the other reporter.

When Sanders finished her answer, she called on a different reporter, but Acosta pressed for a follow-up.

“If you don’t mind, hold on, if I may follow up — excuse me — you did not say in the course of those remarks that you just made that the press is not the enemy of the people,” Acosta said, directing his “excuse me” at the other reporter.

Sanders said, “I appreciate your passion. I share it. I have addressed this question. I’ve addressed my personal feelings. I’m here to speak on behalf of the president. He has made his comments clear.”
