CNN host John King expressed excitement Tuesday at the idea of a political upset by Democrats in the Ohio special election for the 12th Congressional district.

King said the closeness of the race should make Republicans “nervous” about the upcoming November midterms and the possibility of a blue wave. (RELATED: ‘Morning Joe’ Panel Excited After Democratic-Socialist Win)

The Republican, Troy Balderson appears to have edged out Democratic candidate Danny O’Connor for the win, but the race has not been officially called.

“This district is ruby red Republican,” King said on “Cuomo Prime Time.” “The fact that it is so close is a big deal.”

King broke down the numbers and said the GOP is now “on defense” as they work to maintain their dwindling lead in the House.

“If you look ahead to November––let me switch again for you––here’s what you’re looking at. We have 95 House races that we view as the most competitive going forward. 82 of them are held by Republicans,” King concluded.

Republicans are on defense. If they’re worried about this district, ruby red here, guess what? No matter what happens in the next couple hours, every one of these other Republicans goes to bed tonight a little more nervous.”
