While most of the media is content to throw a very public tantrum about President Trump’s use of the phrase “enemy of the people,” at least one media executive seems to have embraced it.

Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax Media, attended a dinner Trump organized for influential business leaders Tuesday night at one of his golf courses. During the dinner, the president asked to hear directly from the industry leaders about their business and how to keep the American economy booming. Then everyone around the room stood up in turn and introduced themselves.

That’s when Ruddy, the only media exec in the room, decided to drop some levity on Trump’s media criticism.

“Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax Media,” he said, then “I am an enemy of the people that actually supports Donald J. Trump.”

The room burst into laughter.

The last two weeks have been punctuated by Trump and his administration clashing with various journalists. The president labeled the “Fake News” media the “enemy of the people.” The label had a chilling effect for many reporters except for, it seems, Mr. Ruddy.

Ruddy publishes Newsmax.com and broadcasts the Newsmax TV network, which reaches tens of millions of people around the country. Newsmax does over $100 million in revenue annually, according to reports.
