DNC Silent As Deputy Chair Ellison Battles Domestic Abuse Allegations
UPDATE: The DNC finally weighed in on the Ellison allegations after 72 hours of silence. Read what they said here
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has elected to remain silent as its deputy chair, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, battles allegations of domestic violence from an ex-girlfriend.
Monahan claims to have a video of Ellison dragging her off of a bed and yelling expletives at her. She told CNN that she misplaced the thumb drive with the video on it while moving, but three of her friends (who remained anonymous) said that Monahan told them about the alleged incident in the months after she moved out of his apartment.
Ellison, who is running for Minnesota attorney general and faces two opponents in Tuesday’s primary, has denied the allegations and said that the video doesn’t exist. (RELATED: Liberal Women’s Group Calls On Ellison To Resign From Congress, Drop Out Of AG Race)
But three days after Ellison was first accused of abusing a woman, the DNC has declined to take any position on the allegations.
So, even if there’s nothing to these Ellison allegations—especially if there’s nothing to them, in fact—the total silence from the DNC on their #2 guy is really something.

Two vital bits from @KFILE & @natemcdermott’s story on the Ellison allegations: 1. Multiple friends confirmed Monahan’s consistency. 2. When Monahan alleged physical abuse in texts to Ellison, he did NOT deny them. The DNC needs to respond to this, pronto. https://t.co/higyJS7Jpz pic.twitter.com/JmtVfO8x8a
