MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said the Republican Party is in for a reckoning and will pay a high political price once President Donald Trump is out of office.

Political commentator Michael Steele was discussing Trump’s treatment of Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona and said the president’s behavior had been “disappointing.” (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Accuses Trump Of Knowingly Lying To His Supporters)

“The most disappointing part for me, though, is everybody else in the GOP that allows this to fester and to continue, who [doesn’t] speak out and say, ‘while we may have this disagreement with McCain over policy or philosophy, we value him,'” Steele said on  “Morning Joe” Tuesday.

“The current president continues to mock him, his illness notwithstanding. Even if John McCain was not as ill as he is, the fact that this president does not value his service to me is just despicable.”

“Despicable, and complete silence,” Scarborough replied.

He then accused Trump of bowing to Russian President Vladimir Putin and said White House officials continue to launch racist attacks against those they disagree with.

“Silence in the face of mocking and just loathing this great American hero. A silence in the face of one racist attack after another, coming from the White House and silence in the face of a complete capitulation to an ex-KGB spy,” he concluded.

“This Republican Party, these Republican leaders will have much to answer for when Donald Trump leaves the national stage, and he will.”
