Warren Criticizes Ocasio-Cortez For Banning Press — Says Press Is ‘The Best Way To Run A Democracy’

Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed her disapproval at Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while taking questions at the National Press Club on Tuesday for her decision to ban press from some her town hall meeting last week. Warren said inviting press is “the best way to run a democracy.”

“Last week, we saw Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explicitly exclude journalists from two of her town halls that were open to the public. In response to the initial backlash, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “Additionally, with this town hall non-story: it was designed to protect + invite vulnerable populations to PUBLIC discourse: immigrants, victims of domestic abuse, and so on. We indicated previously that the event would be closed to press. Future ones are open.”

“Look, I have had press at my events for a long time. I just finished my 34th town hall and so, as far as I know, we had press at every single one of them,” Warren stated.

She continued, “We did availability afterward so anybody could come up from the press specifically and ask their own questions. I think that’s the best way to run a democracy.”
